NPR Offers Buyouts to 300 Newsroom Staffers

NPR is eliminating some reporting and editing jobs as it seeks to fill an $8 million gap in its $300 million annual budget and survive the loss of federal subsidies for member stations, NPR
reports. The network is offering buyouts to roughly 300 employees, but layoffs could ensue if too few staffers accept the buyouts by Next Tuesday, May 26. At the same time, NPR has received two
private gifts totaling $113 million. Most of that money will used to advance technological innovation.
