The Trump Administration has blasted the’ UK’s plan to boost BBC, ITV and other traditional media on digital
platforms like YouTube, The Guardian reports. Such a move could “establish a template that authoritarian regimes could invoke to justify more control over online
content,” said a statement made via the US embassy in London. A spokesperson for the UK’s Department for
Culture, Media and Sport replied, “We welcome engagement and responses to our media green paper. We believe strongly in free expression and fair competition,
and any action we take will ensure these are protected.”
