Local news consumption patterns are changing as general interest has declined, Pew Research Center reports in a fact sheet. In 2025, 21% of Americans said they follow local news very closely, down
from 37% in 2016. And 36% of U.S. adults said they get news from their local daily paper at least sometimes compared to 43% in 2018.
