A federal judge on Friday blocked enforcement of a Texas law that prohibited social media platforms from serving targeted ads to minors, without parental consent.

“It is undisputed that Amazon never promised Prime subscribers — in writing or otherwise — that its streaming service was, or would remain, ad-free,” U.S. District Court Judge Barbara Rothstein in Seattle said in a 15-page ruling dismissing the case.

“Algorithmic feeds are indispensable to a safe and navigable internet because they enable platforms to organize the constant flood of digital content,” the Chamber of Progress and others say in a friend-of-the-court brief filed Thursday with the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
