As we move into our new fiscal year, Salesforce Developers may have noticed updated terms covering their use of Developer orgs and Salesforce’s APIs. These terms were updated in December 2024, and we encourage you to read the new terms in their entirety (see links below).
Although the core principles of the Salesforce agreements and our AppExchange Partner Program remain unchanged, we have updated the terms to clarify one point in particular: which types of applications must enroll in the Salesforce AppExchange Partner Program.
About the Salesforce AppExchange Partner Program
Salesforce provides AppExchange Partners with resources to build and grow their business by providing a range of programmatic and technical benefits. These include our industry leading AppExchange, marketing assistance, technical training, specialized tooling, and programs for joint innovation.
Which applications must enroll in the program
Given the substantial investments that Salesforce makes to provide Partners with the tools and resources to build, scale, and distribute their applications, the updated terms clarify that, as a general rule, you may only access or use Salesforce services to develop, operate, authenticate, integrate to, or distribute your application if it is enrolled in the AppExchange Partner Program. This requirement is subject to limited exceptions. If there is no charge for your application or anything it connects to, or if you are developing an application for a single customer, you may not be required to join. Please read the full Salesforce agreements noted below, especially the definition of “Commercially Distributed Application.”
