The evolving admin landscape
The Salesforce Admin role is continuously evolving, especially with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI). As Salesforce Admins, we play a crucial role in ensuring our users get the most out of the platform, and sometimes that means adapting to where our users are most comfortable. One such place is Slack, a tool to connect with people and apps. By integrating Agentforce, the suite of assistive and autonomous agents built on the Salesforce Platform, into Slack, we can significantly enhance user productivity and satisfaction—in the place where people, apps, data, and agents come together.
Slack is a collaboration and productivity hub where users can prioritize tasks, share ideas, and stay aligned. Slack users love the easy-to-use interface and ability to connect with their teammates and data all in one place.
The power of Agentforce in Slack
So what happens when we bring agents into Slack where they can be your digital coworker and partner? Massive productivity gains and happy users. Here are a few reasons why.
- Users are already in Slack, and bringing Agentforce to them means they don’t have to log in to another platform. It also means that Slack users who don’t need Salesforce access can still take advantage of all the benefits of intelligent autonomous agents (and in this case, enriched with Slack data).
- Users can treat agents like colleagues using the Slack functionality they already use with their team. They can @mention and bring the agent into a channel or send them a direct message (DM).
- Users can take advantage of Agentforce performing autonomous Slack actions to enhance their productivity. For example, users can ask their new agent partner to complete various tasks, like create canvases or new channels.
Working with Agentforce in Slack is also great for Salesforce Admins who are already familiar with building in Slack. Creating agents in Slack might be an easier interface for admins just learning Agentforce versus starting out directly in Agent Builder.
Admin superpowers are perfectly suited for Slack Admins
This integration aligns well with Salesforce Admins’ existing skill sets, allowing us to extend our expertise and responsibilities to Slack without needing to learn entirely new skills. By becoming proficient in both Salesforce and Slack, we can offer a seamless, collaborative, and productive work environment for our users, positioning ourselves as central figures in the organization’s collaboration and automation efforts. Let’s take a look at the admin core responsibilities and their parallels in Slack.
User management includes managing users, permissions, and access in both platforms. Admins can also take their understanding of business processes and requirements and create more effective solutions in both Salesforce and Slack.
Data management continues to keep data secure—in both workspaces. Plus, agents have even more user data from Slack to leverage in their reasoning.
Product management responsibilities expand to leveraging not only AppExchange and Agent Exchange but also Slack Marketplace.
Security extends to access controls and compliance considerations in both environments.
Analytics are actionable across both Salesforce and Slack, with admins analyzing channel activity, user engagement, and performance.
Admins also can leverage their configuration and customization skills by adding Slack actions to flows and setting up channels, workflows, and integrations in Slack. In fact, it gives us another place to do what we do best: build and customize!
Become a dual-threat admin
Salesforce Admins are already equipped with the skills for Slack administration. As Agentforce becomes a part of our users’ everyday lives, we bridge the gap between the two platforms to create a cohesive, collaborative, and productive work experience for our users. We can position ourselves as a central point of expertise for all collaboration and automation needs across the organization, being active and helpful where users work. Becoming a dual-threat admin is both a natural and advantageous position and career progression.
I encourage you to consider this opportunity to advance your admin role with emerging AI technology and take steps to become a Slack Admin. As admins, we’re the product owners of Salesforce and have the best understanding of our users’ needs, which means we have the power to continue to create exceptional user experiences—both in Salesforce and in Slack.
