1. Prepare the basics & your setup

Feeling nervous before any interview is natural, and preparing the basics can help you feel more confident. Use this checklist as your must-do list to ensure you’re fully prepared, positive, and ready to impress your interviewer:

  • Select your space: Choose a quiet area with good lighting and a background free of distractions.
  • For virtual interviews:
    • Test your tech: Run a tech check with a friend or family member beforehand. Remember to be in a quiet space, ensure your computer is fully charged and plugged in, and familiarize yourself with the platform (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet).
    • Stay visible: Keep your camera on throughout the virtual interview. We find this strengthens connection and communication. Should a lag occur, that’s okay — do your best to resolve any connectivity issues as quickly as possible. Have your cell phone handy just in case.
  • Be punctual & present: Join on time, give 100% of your attention, and turn off distractions.
  • Be authentic & truthful with AI (for preparation): Use AI tools to help you prepare or draft materials like cover letters or applications, as long as all information is accurate and truthful. Keep in mind, the interviewer needs to assess your individual thoughts, experiences, and accomplishments – not AI’s.

Psst: Don’t let glitches derail you! Approach technical challenges or interruptions with humor and showcase your adaptability and problem-solving skills.

2. Get ready and rehearse (with AI in mind)

The tips and tricks below apply to both on-site and virtual interviews. As you prepare, remember the guidelines for using AI tools responsibly – we want to truly get to know your strengths and potential!

  • Do your homework: Review the job description, highlight your relevant skills (or eagerness to learn!), and research your interviewer(s) on LinkedIn to craft smart questions.
  • Practice makes perfect: Rehearse presentations with friends or family to sharpen your speaking abilities and clarify your message.
  • AI in interviews? Hold up! Unless your interviewer specifically prompts you for an exercise, please do not use AI tools during the interview itself. (If you need AI for accessibility, ask your recruiter for the formal accommodation process.)
  • No recording, please: For privacy and fairness, please refrain from recording or transcribing your interview(s), regardless of AI features. We build our process on trust, and violating this policy could unfortunately impact your consideration for the role.

3. Demonstrate your enthusiasm & engage thoughtfully

Make a stellar first impression in interviews by expressing your genuine excitement for the role. Remember, authenticity is key to building trust, which — here at Salesforce — is our top value.

  • Dress to impress: Your interview is a chance to make a lasting first impression. While Salesforce is more casual, we recommend choosing an outfit that helps you feel confident and prepared to do your best.
  • Confidence is key: Organize your thoughts and practice your responses beforehand, then conversationally share your background and experience using the STAR method
  • Share your interests: Be honest about your likes, dislikes, values, and goals to ensure a perfect match for both sides.
  • Embrace feedback & ask insightful questions: Demonstrate a learner’s mindset by asking for and incorporating feedback.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions about how the company leverages AI; we’re specifically looking for employees excited about its possibilities. Show genuine interest by inquiring about new topics or areas you’re less familiar with (maybe something you’ve learned about in our Agentblazer trails!), gaining more knowledge about the team you may potentially join.

4. Send thank you notes & maintain momentum

A thank you note after an interview is a simple yet important step. By expressing gratitude and following up on any outstanding questions, you can reinforce your interest and leave a positive impression.
