ChatGPT Search gets ‘smarter’ and adds image-based queries

ChatGPT search smarter

OpenAI upgraded ChatGPT’s built-in search capabilities to better understand complex queries, provide more coherent responses in longer chats, and allow users to search using images.

Why we care. ChatGPT continues to evolve its nascent search platform. It’s important to be aware of changes like these because they could impact your visibility in ChatGPT’s answers and search results.

What’s new. According to OpenAI’s changelog, as of June 13, ChatGPT search:

  • More reliably follows instructions, especially across extended chats.
  • Is less prone to repeating itself.
  • Can automatically do multiple searches behind the scenes to answer complex questions.
  • Can now search the web based on a user’s uploaded image.

Yes, but. ChatGPT search responses may be longer. Also, the model may sometimes explain its reasoning in more detail than needed – especially for simple questions. OpenAI is working on a fix for this.

  • OpenAI also warned that the model still makes mistakes and encouraged users to verify its results.
